Kenneth Anger: Magick Lantern Cycle
Fusing fashion and design with a surrealist aesthetic Kenneth Anger is a unique voice in cinema. His inimitable style and imagination have given rise to films of extraordinary visual power, including the nine short film works included in this rare, newly restored, theatrical screening of the complete “Magick Lantern Cycle”.
A cinematic magician, a legendary provocateur, author of the infamous HOLLYWOOD BABYLON series of books and the creator of some of the most striking and beautiful works in the history of film, Kenneth Anger is a singular creative force of energy. A major influence on everything from the films of Martin Scorsese, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and David Lynch. Anger’s work serves as a talisman of universal symbols and personal obsessions, combining myth, artifice and ritual to render cinema with the power of a spell or incantation. Selected works in this screening of the complete “Magick Lantern Cycle” include: FIREWORKS (1947), PUCE MOMENT (1949), RABBIT’S MOON (1950), EAUX D’ARTIFICE (1953), THE INAUGURATION OF THE PLEASURE DOME (1954), SCORPIO RISING (1963), KUSTOM KAR KOMMANDOS (1965), INVOCATION OF MY DEMON BROTHER (1969), LUCIFER RISING (1972).
