Millennial Stereotypes is a powerful and vibrant exhibition of contemporary fashion illustration by Mafalda Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos is a widely travelled artist who is now based in Melbourne.
Works featured in this exhibition highlight the influence of her time spent in Africa, a clashing and fearless use of colour that jars and contrasts with the human form. Her representation of the body, fabrics and movement are also memories of the streets of Matola.
Mafalda’s gaze is very detailed, images are cropped into details of the face or an area of a garment to bring a sharper focus to key features. Beautifully rendered works that are a fresh take on the medium of fashion illustration.
