This week in Melbourne there’s a vibrant and immersive selection of fashion festivities to get involved in. We have put together some must-see events for our art, design and fashion followers:


Fashion in Games discussion

Headed by a panel of professionals in the gaming world, this talk centres around fashion’s role in games and online character development. If you’re a bit of a tech-head and are also interested in the importance of fashion’s integration with game-play, this free event is the ideal activity.

Be Bold Festival

Bold is beautiful and this festival is no exception as it boasts 15 art and fashion exhibitions and events across St Albans and Brimbank. Seeking to engage, stimulate and celebrate diversity, the event is developed through a series of workshops and brings together professional artists and community members of all ages.

The festival pays homage to Leigh Bowery, raised locally and considered one of the most influential art figures in London and New York in earlier years.

Vogue: Runway Basics

Learn how to own the runway with this shoes-on workshop presented by SIGNAL and supported by the City of Melbourne. If you are between the ages of 15 and 25, grab your favourite heels and get walking to this event.

NXK POP UP & immersive AR activated retail experience

Designer Nixi Killick is showcasing her kaleidoscopic collection, Cryptic Frequency, in a pop-up store, bringing fashion and technology together. Killick was selected as a finalist for our National Graduate Showcase back in 2013 and has since gone on to push boundaries in the virtual and futuristic-fashion world.

Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion

One of the most influential couturiers of the 20th Century, Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work and legacy is being showcased exclusively at Bendigo Art Gallery. With more than 100 garments and hats, as well as sketches, patterns and photographs, this exhibition is an ideal day trip out of Melbourne.

Introduction to Darkroom

This is one for all the budding fashion photographers out there. Learn the functions of darkroom practice with this day workshop run by a team with a passion for arts and chemistry-based photography.

Lucy McRae: Body Architect at NGV

This unique exhibition is a provocative and explosive story-telling experience, highlighting the Australian artists’ concerns from topics of commerce, science, and popular culture. The artist/designer’s images and film are available for free viewing all through until February.
