National Designer Award

National Designer Award finalists announced

We're exciting to share the finalists for Australia’s most prestigious award fostering excellence in the fashion industry, the National Designer Award presented by David Jones and Supported by Harper’s BAZAAR.

The six finalists for 2017 are:

  3. Anna Quan (NSW)
  4. Third Form (NSW)
  5. Kloke (VIC)

EXINFINITIS

 

Celebrating 21 years of design excellence in 2017, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival National Designer Award is proud of its alumni that include MacGraw, STRATEAS.CARLUCCI, Dion Lee, Romance Was Born, Yeojin Bae and Toni Maticevski, brands that continue to experience industry success globally.

The Festival's CEO, Graeme Lewsey, lead the high-profile judging panel of industry leaders and Award stakeholders that includes; David Collins, Group Executive – Merchandise, David Jones; 2016 winners Beth and Tessa MacGraw and Kellie Hush, Editor-in-Chief, Harper’s BAZAAR.

The Award finalists will be celebrated at a glamorous industry event on 1st March at David Jones Bourke Street, Melbourne.  

 

Third Form

 

The winner will receive a high-value business development prize pack, valued in excess of AUD $100,000 and designed to acknowledge the designer(s) significant contribution to the Australian fashion industry and provide resources to assist the label’s development into the future.

    • A cash payment of $15,000 (up from $10,000 in previous years)
    • A bespoke David Jones keepsake engraved trophy
    • A place in the coveted Australian Fashion Chambers’ Paris Showroom
    • Integration into David Jones
    • An inclusion of the winning designer in the Gala Runway presented by David Jones
    • Return flights to an international city with Virgin Australia
    • Business consultancy services and mentoring with K&L Gates
    • Harper’s BAZAAR look book styling assistance
    • International market support from the Festival’s sister organisation The Australian Global Fashion Alliance
    • A place in the coveted Australian Fashion Chambers’ Paris Showroom.

Graeme Lewsey said he is proud to identify and enable excellence within the Australian fashion industry and to contribute to the future of the Australian design industry with this revered award.

This year the field of applicants was increasingly competitive, proving Australia’s design industry continues to thrive.   We are particularly proud of the calibre of the 2017 finalists, who we believe represent what this Award stands for - design innovation and creativity,” said Lewsey.

David Collins, Group Executive – Merchandise at David Jones expressed his delight to present the National Designer Award as part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2017.
