MELBOURNE MADE, ETHICALLY ACCREDITED
Melbourne-designed and produced label, to Barwyn and back have just launched their first collection of ethically made tech streetwear garments.
Designed for urban adventurers, with a specific focus on riding culture, to Barwyn and back was conceived to support cycle commuting. “While working 9-5 and commuting to work on a bike, I realised the importance of clothing that was comfortable, durable and breathable and that also looked great at work or at drinks after”, explains designer Gemma Baxter.
They have launched with six garments including a vest, pants, shorts, long-sleeve shirt, dress and gown ranging from $80 to $310. The garments are reflective, moisture-wicking, water-repellant, quick-dry, antimicrobial and high UPF rating.
Made in Brunswick and are accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, Gemma has spent over two years exploring textile suppliers and manufacturers, while researching, testing and playing with various designs that incorporate sustainable practice and innovation from product to packaging.
“I think the most positive thing I've found is that because I'm driven by a greater vision I don't feel the constraints or pressures of the fashion industry. I'm confident and passionate in my goal to hustle hard to use fashion as a tool to influence behaviours, and I find that really exciting," says Gemma.
