Get race day ready with Elliot Garnaut
This Spring Racing season, we asked one of Australia's top stylists Elliot Garnaut to share his top trends to get race day ready, here's what Elliot had to say.
This spring racing season, we cannot deny the 'Meghan Markle' effect. This will see a return to more traditional millinery (hats… divine!) and more structured, fitted dresses trackside. This is not like past years of a one shouldered scuba, but a highly elegant, demure piece that screams chic.
Women now more so than ever are taking inspiration from their male counterparts when it comes to trackside fashion. This includes structured and an ode to Saville row traditions such as tartan and prince of wales check prints. In contrast, fine linen and cotton pieces have become prevalent wardrobe staples for the Resort 19 Season. These pieces will play a pivotal part in the more relaxed racing days such as Caulfield Cup and Flemington Stakes Day.
Where 2012/13 saw colour blocking as a key trend, 2018 is also about 50 shades of…colour! Red on red on red, blue on blue on blue with a hat matches shoes matches dress kinda vibe.
Gone are the days of the OTT chandelier earrings in my opinion. We are now looking towards the finer accessory. Use jewellery to compliment your look, not distract from it.
Moving onto shoes where the slingback is back and don’t for a second think corporate. A modern slingback has returned for its time in the sun! And lastly bags…This season we have seen endless micro bags of all shapes and sizes. Inconvenient maybe? – but oh so worth it for the look.
