Julia Banks is an Independent Member of the House of Representatives in the Federal Parliament of Australia.
Julia was elected in 2016 as the Member for Chisholm and has served as a member of the House Economics Committee and Chair of the Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee . She has also been Chair of Parliamentary Friendship groups including UNICEF, a member of the Climate Change Action group and she launched the first ever Parliamentary Friendship Group for Women’s Health .
Born raised and educated in Melbourne, Julia graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree from Monash University and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.Prior to entering Parliament, Julia worked in the business and corporate world for over 25 years beginning her career as a lawyer in private practice. Throughout her career Julia has been a passionate advocate for gender equality and women in leadership and involved in a number of not for profit charities and organisations.
Julia and her husband Mike regard their home on the Mornington Peninsula which they have owned for 20 years as an irreplaceable part of their lives. Julia’s parents also lived on the Peninsula for many years and as julia and Mike raised their children they revelled in being part of a local community which they believe to be one of the best and most environmentally beautiful places in Australia.
When Julia announced she is running as an Independent candidate for the Flinders electorate in the forthcoming Federal Election she said:
“Local communities are the heart and soul of our great country and it’s important that the people of Flinders electorate have someone who genuinely works hard for them and takes pride in being their voice in Parliament. I’ve always given 100% and this is no different”
