Zachary C. Bako is an American photographer and filmmaker based in Shanghai. After receiving his B.S in Business + M.A. in Studio Photography at Case Western Reserve University in conjunction with the Cleveland Institute of Art, Bako moved to New York and began his photography career in the fashion and fine art industries. His range of media developed further during a four-year stint in Beijing where he cultivated his reportage work, winning American Photography three years in a row. While in Beijing, Bako pursued issues of air pollution, redevelopment and anxiety within his own artwork. In a subsequent three-year stretch in Los Angeles, Bako explored filmmaking, experimental light design and launched his first music documentary at the Harlem International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Independent Filmmakers Showcase. Being based in Shanghai, he brings his honed multidisciplinary techniques into his film and still productions.
